Make safety a priority before, during and after a storm

Safety is a cornerstone of our commitment to customers and employees. We urge you to be prepared and be aware of potential hazards at all times, especially before, during and after a severe weather event. Below are electricity-related tips to help you prepare to keep you and your family safe.

If there is damage to your meter box or the pole on top of your meter box, you must first have an electrician make repairs before we can restore your service.

Use caution while driving. Power interruptions may cause traffic signals to stop working without warning. If you come to an intersection with a non-working traffic signal, Florida law requires that you treat it as a four-way stop.

When working on a ladder, look up and note the location of power lines before you begin.

Stay away from standing water. Keep children away from puddles of water and downed power lines. Don't walk or drive near downed power lines or in water, where a downed power line could be concealed.

In a flooded home, battery-powered lighting is the safest lighting source. Use flashlights when inspecting a home for possible damage.
